Yesterday, in the Magic Kingdom, the Orange Bird returned to his perch in the Sunshine Tree Terrace. Like other members of the online Disney community, I see this as a definite win for WDW. Yes, it is a nod to nostalgia, but it is not a negative move. This type of detail adds layers to the various lands in the park, and isn't the attention to detail one of the reasons that we all love Disney World? The citrus swirl has also returned. Now, I was very young when the Orange Bird went away 25 years ago, but I can see the value in this type of nostalgia and intricate layering of details in Adventureland. Disney is on the right track if they continue to create such detail. Also, I love the retro-merchandise that has come out of the Orange Bird's return. This type of merchandise is unique to Disney World, and these are the types of items that I am more than happy to buy. Thank you Jason Grandt for being an awesome imagineer and paying attention to details and the history of the Vacation Kingdom of the World.
Take the time to watch the D23 Armchair Archivist episode about our friend the Orange Bird. |
